The word chiropractic is derived from the Greek and means “ To Perform With The Hands”. Paintings from ancient Egypt and Greece have shown that chiropractic was used thousand of years ago. However, D.D. Palmer did not establish modern chiropractic until 1895.
Treatment is usually painless and contrary to popular belief will usually seem completely natural and un-dramatic. Taking into account several factors including the patient’s examination findings, history and/or x-rays (when necessary), the doctor can make the decision on how to best treat your problem.
Chiropractors today have the education and technology to treat many neuromusculoskeletal problems, not just back and neck pain. Chiropractic can also help you understand the benefits of different modalities such as exercising, stretching the muscles, and eating a healthy diet.
Once the initial injury or problem has been relieved your chiropractor can help with the identification and prevention of similar problems by correcting certain stressors that your body is exposed to everyday.
Chiropractic utilizes a detailed examination of the joints of the body to determine if and where a functional misalignment exists. If misalignment exists and is isolated the chiropractor can physically restore the joint to its optimal position and range of motion. This may take one, or more frequently, a series of treatments to stabilize the condition.
Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the spine and nervous system and how this relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.
The chiropractic belief on healing and health differs from the traditional medical view. A chiropractor will evaluate the entire patient during the examination and treat the patient holistically. The alignment of the entire body and a patient's overall health picture is addressed. Chiropractors are not just focused on one symptom or specific part of the body. We know the body can maintain and heal itself in most cases over time without chemicals or the removal of certain tissues. We believe health is something that comes from within not from without, and that the body (with a little help in some cases) can take care of and maintain harmony.
The Chiropractor and his or her staff also knows that under certain circumstances traditional medical intervention may be necessary. Ultimately, it is your body that controls and manages the healing process and not the doctor or externally applied forces.
Once the Chiropractor corrects spinal or joint misalignments they can eliminate spine and nerve irritation that leads to most symptoms in the body. Pain is relieved, and the bodies own restorative capabilities are set into motion.
